Peru August 2010 : I went to Peru in July and August 2010 to trek the Cordillera Huayhuash circuit (pronounced "Why Wash"), one of the world's top long treks, and site of Joe Simpson's epic crawl and struggle for survival. I was joined on the trek by another gringo, Shaun Devine, who proved to be a handy cook and an excellent pack mule. The phenomenal landscape makes it an easy place to take great photos. All you have to do is point the camera (and wake up before dawn, and/or hike to the top of a 5000m pass, and cart around a tripod for 10 days.) Our trek involved 10 days' moderate walking, crossing over 9 passes of between 4600 and 5000 m.a.s.l. On Day 6 we scrambled up a scree slope to the summit of a minor peak called Cuyoc Central at 5300 m.a.s.l. After the trek I travelled north to Trujillo, where nothing remotely interesting happened.

Vietnam 2010 : "I wanted a mission, and for my sins, they gave me one." Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City over 2 and a bit weeks, including a jaunt up the Mekong River to find Colonel Kurtz (and terminate him...with extreme prejudice).
